Overview
SpotTab (“we”, “our”, or “the extension”) is a Chrome extension that helps you search, switch to, and manage open browser tabs through a side panel. This privacy policy explains what information the extension accesses, how it is used, and your choices.
Single purpose
SpotTab has one purpose: tab search and tab management. All features — including search, grouping, switching, closing tabs, and sweep actions — exist solely to support that purpose.
Information the extension accesses
When you use SpotTab, the extension may access:
- Tab information — titles, URLs, favicons, pinned/active status, and last-accessed times for open tabs across your browser windows.
- Window information — which browser window is focused, so tabs can be grouped and displayed correctly.
- Local preference — your font size setting in the side panel, stored with Chrome’s local storage API.
How we use information
SpotTab uses this information only to:
- Display and search your open tabs in the side panel
- Switch to, close, or bulk-close tabs when you request it
- Keep the tab list updated as tabs change
- Remember your font size preference
SpotTab does not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing. SpotTab does not transmit your tab data to our servers or any external service.
Where data is processed
All processing happens locally in your browser on your device. Tab data is kept in memory while the side panel is in use and is not uploaded off your device by SpotTab.
Permissions
SpotTab requests the following Chrome permissions:
- tabs — to read open tab titles and URLs, switch tabs, close tabs, and refresh the list when tabs change.
- sidePanel — to show SpotTab’s user interface in Chrome’s side panel.
- storage — to save your font size preference locally.
- windows — to group tabs by window, highlight the current window, focus a window when switching tabs, and close a window when you choose that action.
Data retention
SpotTab does not maintain a remote database of your browsing activity. The only persistent data stored by the extension is your font size preference in local storage. Tab information is read when needed to power the UI and is not stored long-term by SpotTab.
Children’s privacy
SpotTab is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of SpotTab after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
